“Magnificent detail. On request we can also can create in rose or yellow gold.
Inspired by the highly endangered Southern Ground-Hornbill, and are considered internationally as ‘vulnerable’ with only 1500 left in South Africa. They live over 60 years. They are very distinctive and are described as ‘big black booming birds’.
Interestingly an alpha female dominates the group. Commonly termed ‘Thunderbirds’ as often associated with rain, their deep call can carry up to 5 kilometres. This bird is also prominent in the folklore of the Zulu, Pondo and Xhosa tribes.”
Bowes Brothers have partnered with the Mabula Ground Hornbill Project for this collection. Brilliant work being done by harvesting and assisting the hand reared redundant second hatched chicks that would naturally die of starvation in wild nests. These chicks are then programmatically re-wilded.
